E-mail Security Tips

Electronic mail, commonly referred to as email or e-mail, is a method of exchanging digital messages from an author to one or more recipients.

Here are some important security tips you should know in order to keep your email account as secure as possible.

1.     Use separate email accounts

2.     Never open attachments, click on links, or respond to emails from suspicious or unknown senders.

3.     Don't access your e-mail from an unsecured network or potentially compromised computers.

4.     Create a strong email password. Never use simple or easy to guess passwords. For more tips on creating a strong password please see the Password security Tips

5.     Scan all email attachments before downloading and opening them. This includes unexpected email attachments from people you know. Viruses and spyware easily spread through email attachments by emailing themselves to email addresses listed in contact lists and address books.

6.     Do not save your email account passwords in your mail programs or web browsers.

7.     Avoid using public Wi-Fi for accessing email or on-line transaction.

8.     If you receive a suspicious email that you think is a phishing email, do not respond or provide any information.
